Revocation
Genre: Metal
Rarely does a band step to the forefront of a genre with such purpose and confidence. Revocation, the Boston-based modern metal band, have moved from relative obscurity to international critical acclaim and been anointed by the metal press and their peers alike as one of the brightest hopes for the genre at large.
Revocation was formed in 2006 by childhood friends Dave Davidson (guitar/vocals), Anthony Buda (bass/vocals), and Phil Dubois-Coyne (drums). The Boston-based trio quickly started gigging throughout New England, and recorded their first demo, the three-track ‘Summon the Spawn’, by years end.
The trio wrote and road-tested new material opening for the likes of Dimmu Borgir, Suicide Silence, and 3 Inches of Blood, before entering Damage Studios in early ‘08 with engineer Pete Rutcho to record their debut album ‘Empire of the Obscene’ ‘Empire of the Obscene’ was nothing short of a jaw-dropping debut; fusing together modern, high-energy thrash with elements of technical death metal. The band self-releassed ‘Empire…’, and toured much of the Eastern US behind it.
No sooner was ‘Empire…’ released than Relapse Records was calling, and the band was signed in early 2009. By spring the band was studio-ready once again, and entered Damage with Rutcho to record ‘Existence is Futile’, their Relapse debut.
Released in Sept. 2009, ‘Existence is Futile’ was met with near-universal critical acclaim. ‘Existence is Futile’ blended world class musicianship with a pronounced technical flair; songs twisted, turned, and stopped on dime as Berklee graduate Davidson’s dizzying solos danced within the band razor-sharp precision. Within just a few months, Spin was declaring Revocation as one of the “10 Bands to watch in 2010”, while heralded metal tome Decibel proclaimed "Revocation are the best band you've never heard!”. Davidson also joined the esteemed Jackson Guitars family of players.
2010 saw Revocation add touring guitarist Dan Gargiuolo, and the newly-expanded band hit the international tour trail hard. Revocation logged miles in Japan supporting Behemoth, Europe supporting Dying Fetus, and the US and Canada playing alongside the likes of the The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Misery Index, Veil of Maya, and many more. All in all, the band covered 13 countries with over 150 shows.
