Car Cultured: Crooks & Castles and illest Battle Scion Tuner Challenge

illest vs. Crooks & Castles - Scion iM

Crooks & Castles out of Southern California is battling the Bay Area’s illest in this year’s Scion Tuner Challenge, featuring the new Scion iM hatchback.

Robert Panlilio, the owner of Crooks & Castles…

…spearheaded the team and directed the car’s build. While the brand is best known for its innovative approach to streetwear, Panlilio has been obsessed with cars and modified rides since he was 15 years old. His fascination is reflected in the automotive-inspired looks in his clothing, as well as the cars stockpiled around his home. Panlilio’s first ride was a Toyota, so this opportunity to take on a Scion is a way of bringing him back to his roots.

Headquartered in Northern California, illest…

…is a leading name in apparel and is competing in this year’s Scion Tuner Challenge. Leading the illest team is brand founder Mark Arcenal. With Arcenal’s roots in the Bay Area and import car community, this world is as big an influence on the illest brand as hip-hop. This is the second Tuner Challenge that illest has been part of, and as the experienced veteran, Arcenal is confident, even with the limited time they had to build the car.
