For this segment, Marin gets deep into how Cheech & Chong’s albums were made. At first they tried to directly translate their stage show into recorded bits, but when they realized they didn’t work, they tried a new technique. Marin equates their approach to jazz musicians and explains how they took advantage of the then state of the art 8-track studio. He also reveals that the pair didn’t spend much time around other comedians, they mostly hung with musicians and they had musicians’ sense of humor—that’s partially how they got stars like George Harrison, Billy Preston and Carol King to appear on their records. Keep checking back into Scion AV this week for more insights from Marin.
