The 45 King was part of the Scion Music(less) Music Conference back in 2011. The innovative hip-hop producer and DJ has had a storied career. As a founding member of the Flavor Unit, he was behind most of the production on albums by crew members including Queen Latifah, Lakim Shabazz, Chill Rob G and Apache. His own song “The 900 Number” is among the most recognizable beats in the history of hip-hop. He’s also responsible for his share of hits, producing Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life” and Eminem’s “Stan.”
During his extended interview with Sacha Jenkins, one of the co-founders of Ego Trip and the creative director of Mass Appeal, two-time Grammy Winner the 45 King reminisces about his start DJ’ing in the Bronx and moving to New Jersey during his teens, where he learned about house music. He also tells the stories about how some of his key tracks came together.
Then the 45 King let Scion AV into his spot in Jersey for a Studio Tour. He gave a quick demo of how he puts beats together in Logic. Not only does he hook up the drums, he throws in all the bells and whistles that the A&R guys like to hear.
