Today marks the debut of the Scion AV All Purpose Show, a new web series hosted by legendary producer Prince Paul. Following the format of a late night talk show, the All Purpose Show lets viewers in on all the projects that Scion AV has going on and all the creative talent they are working with. Each episode features exclusive interviews, onsite visits, music videos and much more.
Scion AV and Prince Paul have a long history together and the All Purpose Show is their latest collaboration. This time the charismatic host brings his cohorts in the Ill Out Crew along to keep the jokes coming and also relies on guest correspondents Lloydski and Slick Rick Rivera.
In the first episode of the All Purpose Show, Prince Paul is joined in the studio for a joint interview with former tourmates and rap phenomenons Danny Brown and A$AP Rocky. There’s plenty more, too: Dante Hoagland, who stared as little Danny Brown in the “Grown Up” video, talks with rapper Kitty before her performance at the Scion Open Mic event; Lloydski heads out to Scion AV’s monthly Los Angeles dance party to talk with Creep and Slick Rick Rivera catches up with visual artist French before his opening at the Scion AV Installation space on Melrose Boulevard.
For the second episode, Paul gets a visit from the dynamic duo of producer Harry Fraud and rapper Curren$y before reminiscing with Too $hort, who Paul played a show with in Oakland back in the late 1980s. Producer Nick Hook also hits the couch to make a beat on the fly, with him on the Korg and Ill Out Crew member Mr. Dead on the beatbox. There’s also a two-part visual art report, with a wrap-up on “The Gift Show” that benefited survivors of Superstorm Sandy and a look at SSUR’s recent show at the Scion AV Installation space.
The All Purpose Show is available at Scion AV’s YouTube channel and more will become available every few weeks. Upcoming guests include Nile Rogers, Trinidad James, Killer Mike and A$AP Ferg. Keep watching. Also, check out a short interview preview with Nile Rodgers who will be featured on Episode 3.
